BIOMASS POWER PLANT

Meva Energy’s biomass energy power plants turn biomass residues and biowaste into biogas (biosyngas), which can be used to replace fossil fuels in both production processes as well as power and heat. Here’s how our biomass power plants work:

From biomass residue

By gasification

To energy

What is a biomass power plant?

A biomass power plant turns organic leftovers - wood chips, crop residues, bagasse, and other agricultural by-products - into usable energy. The plant converts this material into electricity or heat through processes designed for each feedstock, most commonly combustion or gasification.

By feeding on waste streams that would otherwise be burned, buried, or left to decay, a biomass energy plant gives discarded resources a second life. Having a biomass power generation plant cuts the environmental footprint of energy production and strengthens local economies by keeping both fuel and value close to home.

Advantages of biomass - a reliable energy stream from nature

Biomass residues never stop flowing. Agriculture, forestry, and wood-processing industries generate fresh biomass every day, and a biomass power plant taps into this steady stream. These feedstocks move in natural and industrial cycles forming a closed loop that cuts waste and keeps resources in motion. Because this flow is predictable throughout the year, a power plant biomass setup offers dependable, cost-efficient renewable energy.

Going beyond zero emissions

A bioenergy power plant creates two products with real climate impact: biosyngas and biochar. The biosyngas replaces fossil fuels in industrial processes, cutting emissions at the source. The biochar, rich in stable carbon, can be added to soils or used as a fossil-free carbon input in metallurgical processes.

By converting organic waste into clean fuel and locking carbon away for centuries, a biomass energy/electricity plant can push beyond net-zero. It offers a pathway to negative emissions, lowering the overall concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere while delivering reliable on-site energy.

What is Biosyngas?

Biosyngas is a renewable biogas consisting of carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen (H₂) and minimal methane. It offers a significantly lower climate impact compared to fossil alternatives like LPG, without compromising on quality. Biosyngas can replace traditional fossil fuels in many industrial processes, making it an efficient and sustainable solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while meeting energy demands.

OUR BIOMASS GASIFICATION PROCESS TURNS RESIDUE INTO A CLEAN AND STABLE FUEL

Entrained gasification for maximised efficiency

  • The gasification reactor forms the heart of the biomass power plant. Inside, high temperatures and an oxygen-poor environment convert solid biomass into clean gas using the entrained-flow principle.
  • Biomass particles feed continuously into the hot reactor, keeping gas quality steady and ensuring a reliable output.
  • Because fine-fraction feedstock has a large surface area, the reactor produces a high volume of biosyngas per unit of material.
  • This design enables a fast, efficient gasification process, giving the bioenergy power plant strong performance even with variable residue streams.

Full allowance of feedstock

  • The system handles larger biomass scrap by running it through a mill or dryer before feeding it into the biomass gasifier. Some materials like MDF or sawdust can enter without any preprocessing.
  • The process accepts fine-fraction biomass below <2 mm, providing broad flexibility in feedstock choice and full compatibility with fine residues.
  • The modular design allows the biomass energy plant to be tailored to each customer’s waste stream, adapting to different industrial by-products.
  • The small reactor size makes fine-fraction feedstock especially suitable, turning what is often a disposal challenge into efficient fuel.

Small scale, decentralized production

A biomass energy power plant doesn’t need to be massive to make an impact. Our compact, modular systems turn biomass into clean biogas directly at the site where the energy is used. By producing power on location, the biomass power plant cuts transport costs, lowers emissions, and strengthens local energy independence.

This decentralized setup gives industries the freedom to match output to their own needs without relying on distant grids or volatile fossil markets. It’s a practical way to turn everyday residues into steady, renewable energy right where it matters.
