Meva Energy has signed a Heads-of-Terms agreement with Elcowire AB, a leading European manufacturer of copper wire products. The agreement outlines the framework for the long-term supply of up to 9 MW of biogas to Elcowire’s Helsingborg facility, enabling Elcowire to become the world’s first copper wire producer to use fossil-free energy.

By replacing fossil gas with Meva Energy’s renewable biogas, Elcowire aims to decarbonize its copper melting process, introducing a new sustainability benchmark for the global metallurgy industry. This partnership also represents a significant milestone for Meva Energy, marking its first entry into the metallurgy sector.

“We’re excited to help Elcowire demonstrate that fossil-free production is possible even in energy-intensive industries like copper manufacturing,” said Niclas Davidsson, CEO of Meva Energy.

The Heads of Terms agreement outlines the main principles that will serve as the foundation for a final biogas delivery contract, which both parties intend to enter within short. It follows a successful feasibility study conducted by Meva Energy, confirming the viability of biogas in Elcowire’s operations.

The partnership with Elcowire shows the scalability of our renewable energy solutions for heavy industry,” Davidsson added. “Together, we want to set a new standard for sustainable manufacturing.”

”We are equally excited about this partnership. Elcowire shares the vision of setting a new standard for sustainable manufacturing. By leveraging Meva Energy’s scalable renewable solutions, we are confident in proving that fossil-free production is not only possible but essential in energy-intensive sectors like copper manufacturing. Together, we can drive significant change and inspire the entire industry to adopt greener practices, said Paul Gustavsson, CEO of Elcowire Group.”
